Campers will “Cruise into Summer” as they embark on an epic journey! They will visit various ports of call while learning about different languages, cultures, landmarks, and more.
Session 1: Polynesian Cruise
Campers will embark on a Polynesian adventure with a trip to the Hawaiian Islands where they will learn Hawaiian words, how the islands were formed, and discover favorite pastimes like surfing and hula dancing. Then, they will make their way to Tahiti where they will discover that the most commonly spoken language there is French, learn about the native flower, discover how many Islands are in Tahiti, and more. The Polynesian Cruise will end with a school-wide luau!
Session 2: Scandinavian Cruise
Campers will take a trip to Sweden where they will learn about the country and it’s place on the map, visit the Ice Hotel, learn about the Swedish Dala Horse, make flower crowns, and hear about the tradition of the Midsummer Celebration. The children will then journey to Norway where they will discover the stories of gnomes, learn about the Arora Borealis, and have a parade in honor of the Fourth of July!
Session 3: Mediterranean Cruise
Campers will visit Italy where they will learn about Leonardo DaVinci and his important works of art and inventions and explore the island city of Venice, discover how people move around the islands, and learn how it was built. Finally, children will make their own Venetian masks for a Masquerade party. Next, the campers will travel to Greece where they will learn about the architecture of ancient structures. They will also discover the culture, language, music, and dance of this ancient country. The session will end with a school-wide Olympic Games.
Session 4: Caribbean Cruise
Campers will explore the island of Puerto Rico and learn about the geography of the island including the rainforest and mountains. They will also discover an important symbol there, the coquí! The summer cruise will come to end in Jamaica where students will be immersed in the sounds and sites of the island. Children will learn about the national bird and butterfly, music, and the famous Dunn’s River Falls.
